Victor Amédée de La Fage (1739-1801), Marquis of Saint-Huruge, French Revolutionary

La Fage, Victor-Amédée de, otherwise known as the Marquis of Saint-Huruge: After giving up a military career, he was imprisoned by royal missive in the Château of Vincennes and Charenton, before fleeing to England due to a personal conflict with the steward of Burgundy. In 1789, he became one of the popular leaders of the Revolution. Nicknaming himself the “generalissimo of the sans-culottes,” he participated in the war against Austria. After the summer of 1794, he became clearly more conservative and participated in hunting down Jacobins.
