Santerre, Antoine-Joseph: A rich and well-known brewer from the Saint-Antoine neighborhood, Santerre got so involved in the Revolution that he became the General Commander of the Paris National Guard. He established himself as one of the main figures of the working-class revolution. Named General, he participated in repressing the insurrections in the West. He retired from politics after the Terror.
