Orléans, Louis-Philippe-Joseph d’, otherwise known as Philippe Égalité: In 1789, the Duke of Orléans was one of the richest nobles in the kingdom. Hated by Marie-Antoinette, the king’s cousin was also one of his greatest opponents. Involved with the revolutionary nobility, he was nicknamed Philippe-Egalité by the Paris Commune. After voting in favor of Louis XVI’s death, he himself was executed on November 6, 1793.
