Mordant, Louis-Claude-René de, the Marquis of Massiac: A sugar plantation owner on the island of Saint Domingue, the Marquis of Massiac was also known for organizing the “Corresponding Society for Colonists” in his mansion on the Place des Victoires. The “Club Massiac” represented the main pro-slavery pressure group during the Revolution.
