Marguerite Brunet, aka Mademoiselle Montansier (1730-1820)

Montansier, Marguerite Brunet, otherwise known as Mademoiselle: Director of performances for the royal court, Madame Montansier managed a theater in Versailles. During the Revolution, she moved to Paris and took over the Beaujolais theater in the Palais-Royal, rapidly nicknamed the “Montansier” or “Variety theater.” With her troop of “Actors from the Republic,” she accompanied Dumouriez’s armies to Belgium, where she performed in 1793.
