Portrait of Jean-Paul Marat (1743-1793), Politician

Marat, Jean-Paul: Marat was known first and foremost as the founder and sole editor of the Ami du Peuple, a newspaper widely read by radical revolutionaries and sans-culottes. Elected deputy of Paris, but accused of kindling working-class violence, he was assassinated in his own home on July 13, 1793 by a young, unknown woman named Marie-Anne-Charlotte de Corday d’Armans.
