Marquis of La Fayette (1757-1834), General Commander of the Parisian National Guard

La Fayette, Gilbert du Motier, the Marquis of: After participating in the American Revolution, this young noble got involved in the French Revolution. A Commander of the Parisian National Guard as well as a deputy, he was also one of the people responsible for the Champ-de-Mars massacre (July 17, 1791). In 1792, he fled France, but was captured by the Austrians and returned in 1797.
