Louis Pierre Dufay (1752-circa 1804) or The Abolition of Slavery Proclaimed at the Convention

Dufay, Louis Pierre: In 1789, this colonist from Saint Domingue was a member of the Massiac Club and opposed the end of the slave trade. However, faced with the slave rebellion that paralyzed the sugar economy, he spoke up on February 4, 1794 in support of abolishing slavery, which immediately passed. Still a property owner in Saint Domingue, this businessman was probably massacred in1804 during the independence of the French portion of the island, now Haiti.
