Portrait of Camille Desmoulins (1760-1794), Journalist and Politician

Desmoulins, Camille: On July 12, 1789 in the Palais-Royal, the attorney Desmoulins succeeded in starting the insurrection that would end, two days later, with the storming of the Bastille. Founder of the newspaper Les Révolutions de France et de Brabant, he was elected deputy in 1792. Supporter of a democratic and social republic, he sat on the Montagnards’ side. However, due to his increasing opposition to the laws of emergency, he was considered an anti-revolutionary: he was executed at the same time as Danton and his supporters on April 5, 1794.
