Portrait of Georges Cuvier (1769-1832), Anatomist

Cuvier, Georges: In 1793, the anatomist Cuvier was one of the scholars and professors who joined the new National Museum of Natural History. He then taught at the Ecoles centrales du Panthéon, became a member of the Institut de France as well as the Collège de France (1800). If his theories on the classification of animals are still famous, what is lesser known is that these ideas contributed to scientifically justifying the false idea that men are naturally divided into different races.
