Philippe Mathé-Curtz aka Curtius (1737-1794)

Curtius, Philippe Mathé-Curtz, otherwise known as: This Germanic anatomist specialized in wax portraits and figures, very popular at the end of the 18th century. His waxworks in the Palais-Royal was dedicated to great men and famous figures from that time; the one on the Boulevard du Temple was dedicated to bandits and thieves. Before his death in 1794, he bequeathed his collection to the young apprentice Marie Grosholtz, who would be known in England under the name Madame Tussaud.
