Portrait of Marie-Joseph Chénier (1764-1811), Politician and Playwright

Chénier, Marie-Joseph: As of 1789, this poet and playwright established himself as one of the first artists to get involved in the Revolution. Seen as a severe critic of the absolute monarchy, his play Charles IX was even censored, before achieving great success. Elected deputy, he then played a significant political role, specifically in the field of public instruction.
