Profile Portrait of Victor from Aveyron (circa 1790-circa 1828)

Victor of Aveyron, otherwise known as “the Wild Boy”: Captured in 1799 in a forest in the Aveyron after having lived entirely on his own, Victor was taken to Paris and then entrusted to Father Sicard, director of the National Institute of Young Deaf Persons. There, he became a subject of various experiments that were conducted in order to find out if it was possible to civilize those who were considered to be “uncivilized.”
